The dedicated and creative staff of educators at St. Mark Catholic School offer your child a truly unique learning experience.

Covering the basic core curriculum and course of study required by the State of North Carolina, St. Mark Catholic School provides your child a strong foundation in subjects like language arts, social studies, math, and science.

The curriculum provides the intellectual and academic foundations that each student will carry with them not only throughout his Upper School career but long after graduation as well. Latin, Spanish, Algebra, Earth Science and Geography are introduced early in a student's career, thus ensuring that he will have the necessary background to succeed in high school and beyond.

We invite you to review our standard curriculum and are readily available to answer answer any questions you may have.

Other Areas of Study

Art, Music & Drama

Our art program integrates lesson plans from some of the other classrooms to reinforce those areas of learning while still keeping it all fun. The art classes have interfaced with most grade levels on at least one project, including Spanish, over the year.

Students in middle school art class will work in a variety of media and methods including printmaking, fabric, collage, paint, and 3-D (clay, wire, wood, or other materials). Students will also study the work of past and contemporary artists and will use their ideas as "teachers" for individual projects. Art vocabulary and art history will be taught and will serve as common language for students to describe their work and the art of other artists. The lessons in middle school art all reflect NC State curriculum standards and will support learning in other content areas

We are fortunate to be able to incorporate two levels in our music program. In music class, our lower school students participate in and learn about all aspects of music including singing, dancing, playing instruments, and reading music. We also focus on music history, composing, and different cultures and genres of music. In our middle school, students have the opportunity to participate in instrumental band, guitar and chorus.

Media Center

The St. Mark Catholic School library media center houses a growing collection of books and other media. At present, the library has over 10,000 titles available to students, faculty, parents and volunteers. All resources within the Media Center Library, as well as volunteers and staff, subscribe to the standards and program guidelines established by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL.)

Our collection continues to be developed using the IMPACT Collection Guidelines as set out by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and meets the criteria to be designated "Outstanding," according to the standards set out by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

The Media Center is home to one of our state-of-the-art SmartBoards--an interactive teaching tool that combines the power of a computer with the simplicity of a white board. The SmartBoard provides limitless resources and transforms the classroom into centers of interactive learning where students are engaged and teachers inspired.

Our Media Center is also home to our student-led, eight-year running morning TV program 'Lions Live!' which features morning news and announcements daily. Lions Live! members perform a different job each day on the show, from anchor to director, from camera to sound and lights. Membership requires the ability to work as a member of a creative team and the maintenance of an overall academic average of 80.

Our program is state-of-the-art, continually growing, and designed to provide building blocks through hands-on learning that prepare our students for technological proficiency at all levels. While installing the fundamentals of hardware and storage and responsible multi-media and web use, our students are able to explore Webquest, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint--all with a xx-network advanced computer lab and a network of Smart Boards that work interactively throughout our classrooms. Additionally, our technology department works in tandem with teachers to facilitate classroom lesson while teaching students the essentials of software of today.
